Mandy Yin is one of the few Malaysian chef/owners in the UK, having founded Sambal Shiok in London in 2013. She is a Malaysian-born Chinese of Peranakan Nyonya heritage, famed for its fusion cooking combining Chinese and Malay cuisines.
Sambal Shiok started trading at street food markets in 2013. Listening to customer demand led to Mandy narrowing her focus on laksa and starting a pop-up restaurant. Her laksa bar has had sell out runs across London over the last two years and she is working towards opening her first restaurant in 2017.
I take inspiration from everything I ate in my childhood growing up in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Then I mix it up and put a new slant on it. My heart and soul is in each dish I create. My mission in life is to introduce as many as possible to the flavours of Malaysia. We take great pride in making all of our spice pastes and sauces in house. Everyone who has tried our food is blown away!
For six dates only, as part of the Evening Standards London Food Month, you are invited to Memories of Malaysia for a supper club with Mandy to celebrate the best of her cooking. Enjoy a mouth-watering joyous feast showcasing some of the most popular dishes at her pop up laksa bar including her Assam broth, Hainan chicken and signature king prawn Laksa.
I am honoured to be working with Sourced Market in Marylebone for this event. A large variety of drinks from Sourced Market will be available to buy separately on the night, including wine pairings exclusive to the event.
At Sourced Market we are passionate about food and drink and champion young independent producers who care about the provenance of their food. When Sambal Shiok came on the London food scene with her delectable beef rendang they instinctively knew Mandy was one to watch. The depth of flavour in her food is incredible and the spice level is not dumbed down, which is a refreshing change. Sourced Market are excited about hosting Mandy’s memories of Malaysia feast.
Arrivals from 6.30pm for 7pm start at Sourced Market, 68 Wigmore St, Marylebone, London W1U 2SD. Drinks can be bought separately on the night. Seating will be at communal tables or bar counters.
Mandy is unable to change the menu to cater for shrimp allergies, vegetarians or vegans due to venue limitations. Her menu is halal and dairy free, and can be made to be gluten free.
